”Art is a reflection of one’s own inner being. It is an expression from the artist that surfaces through the use of subject, form, color and space.”

Diane Holland is a graduate of San Francisco State University. Although her paintings are primarily oil on canvas, she uses many different media and has been known to spontaneously use whatever materials happen to be present. The canvas, or whatever she decides to use becomes an exploration for a mood, a vision or an idea. When she paints an abstract, it is rarely thought out. Her goal is to dramatically exert strength, spirituality, liveliness and beauty to defy what she depicts as the dark side of life. At times she is inspired by her environment, an incident, a person or a place. At other times she is completely absorbed in studying other works of art including those of masters such as Picasso, Chagall and Monet. Her paintings are a culmination of an undefined process used to create the ultimate effect.

Diane Holland was born in Santa Monica California. Radiating a simplified visual design which is accompanied by a bravura color palette, the controlled circumference of visual vocabulary is readily apparent in the artistic lexicon of geometric rectangles, squares and circles. Colors, textures and design are clearly represented in Diane Holland’s abstracts. The use of oils along with other mixed media are set in motion by brilliant colors, lines and textures to bring about beauty, energy and strength. The designs were created with unlimited expression for space, time color and form.

CRITIC ESSAY | PRESENTATION
In the international context of the figurative arts we noticed that during the last 60 years in the artist’s works are lacked some valid themes and some interesting problems as the inspiration, the fantasy and the creativity. I found very valid, unique, exploration and culture of the American painter Diane Holland and for this reason I ‘m very happy to write some critical notes over her personality and over the excellent quality of her art-works.
A natural force, a variegated capacity to receive in her spirit the immensity of the versatile experience human!!! As we can note, her pictorial world develops in a heterogeneous search of form and of colors, of spaces and geometrical figures between mysterious silences and infinite spaces. Diane Holland has energy, imagination, vitality, creative power and expressive strength in the unity of the pure emotion, shrewd, sincerely paint on the canvas with innermost sharing. The serenity of the spirit is very important for the painter.

She studied and assimilated the art of the past and all the twentieth century that we leave behind our shoulders. She surpassed all this gold thread, for to do at the work, a original voice in the sea of the experience of the life, on which sails loaded of charming mystery in the vanished atmospheres of solar time, the splendor of a contaminated symbiosis where seems to dive a voice that she knows to include. Storyteller of colors, the artist speaks, tells with her vital rhythm of her worries, of her joys and of her emotions, felt in the instant of the inspiration. And her language, very mobile, doesn’t have frontiers, also kept a few spaces in the culture passing from the visual score at the sentiments-without intermediaries or motives- so as the acquired picture reproduces, all connecting at the abstract-geometric current but with signs, symbols and codes, very personal, inspiring oneself of innovation.

This, a conversation, composite with the language of the artist, to her internal worries, to her own label of “pictorial current”, which can’t be closed, because that is dynamic in her painting, which changes by the life, a way to create a personal chromatic dictionary, the power, the energy, confessions basically neo-romantic. The painter is sincere, genuine, authentic, and spontaneous. She observes the reality around and strains the humors and welcomes the expectations and the expectancies with an expressive power of humanity, which she transports, carries on the canvas.

Also, the colors, vibrating, ringing, luminous have a remarkable importance because take again her simplicity, her spiritual wealth, her soul’s force, humanity’s energy her possessiveness. The dramatic strength of the human experience, the vision of the surrounding environment, the beauty of the universe in her compositions seem to loose their dimension, reality, for to develop in an extraordinary abstract-geometric composition, singular, unique, between signs and symbols, which clear up wonderfully the meaning and the message of M the work.

In my opinion, we must put in evidence that Diane Holland expresses through her painting as well as her intention to live in a different world and human condition where it is still possible to have the dialogue between the men and where the human being can again try to laugh, to joke and to be enchanted to the sunset, far away from the pollution and from the incessant run to the consumer goods and to the social escalation. For this reason, we can affirm that the artist is rich in warm accents of lyric poetry, tools of the spirit, which ravish all of us.

She can re-create on the material support, her spiritual world, among thousands of psychological nuances, her perturbations of woman of artist, with a valuable harmony of signs and colors among images, which contain profound meanings. Guising, dynamic, lively her spirituality!!! Her artistic personality is no doubt very living, remarkable, efficacious, modern, participating open at the thousand problems and at the learning themes of our times.

We must agree that her creed in the art surmounts every frontier and every barrier of currents and of styles of the present and of the past and wakes oneself in virtue of a creative strength, particularly fertile and singular in the modules and in the models. I could list all the wonderful works of Diane Holland. I cannot. I’ll list only some, just like at random: “Mystic Encounter, “Dynamic”, “Live Connection”, “The Ninth Woman”, “Exuberant”, “Abstract Rhythm”, “Lines of Illusion”, “Time Exploration”, “Midnight Splash”, which in my opinion represent the marvelous synthesis of her human qualities and of her irresistible expressive capacities.

We’ve noticed which dynamic propulsive energy, which involved, intricate soul’s conditions, which treats hidden inside the twists and turns of her spirituality, the artist has proposed through her painting, where is visible besides the variegated images of the nature and of the contemporary society, with an attentive analysis of the anxieties and dreads of varied nature experienced by the contemporary man, through and expressiveness always to the badge of the originality and of idea’s singularity, of the propositions, thoughts, programs, technical and practical answers always brilliantly solved thanks to her vitality, to her spiritual energy, to her positive creed in the life and in the art. I can say that in her painting the color’s brilliance acquire the faith’s sense in the society and in the life itself.

When Diane Holland is in a more tranquil psychological condition, when the life’s circumstances of every day to her offer some instants of spiritual peace, the atmospheres of her compositions acquire some chromatic and graphic valences, which are very dear and appreciated by the impressionist painters. The stroke of the brush becomes sweet, delicate, and brief and a halo of mystery of mysterious charm winds all the context of the canvas. With her velvet stroke, she renders particularly suggestive nuances of the colors the sign is less incisive, the outlines of the painted objects assume some aerial, ethereal valences of extraordinary chromatic charm. . In my opinion of her very notable qualities, purely pictorial, particularly noteworthy are the spatial power and the liberty to interact, sign and use colors to obtain, like this, her art works.

All this does not put in the least a discussion of the oneness of her style because her palette is very moved and variegated and as well because her extreme sensibility and her expressive strength are exceptional and the painter is able to express oneself with different rhythms and timbers of varied intensity.

I don’t link to be wrong, belied when I affirm that Diane Holland has undoubted natural endowments which are augmented with the time, above all at her search in the outline of the figurative arts and when I affirm that the artist has deserved the flatter consents from the public and from the criticism in the past. In Conclusion, in my opinion, Diane Holland is a woman of great personality, endowed with poetical spirituality and with notable artistic experience to the beginnings of the third Millennium.
