Lives and Works in New Zealand

In my work the medallion format is an aspect of the small hand sculptures I have made throughout the past 30 years. The scale allows me to dialogue with the audience in an intimate manner of various contexts, which larger works do not naturally lend themselves to. By addressing the interactive impulse that these works invite, I am leading the audience through an investigative path whereby the senses, emotions, intellectual and psychological states are tested through touching, holding, stroking, placing, as well as through color, texture, and the temperature of the material. Response is immediate. The deciphering of these works through touch is also challenging the perception of how art is understood and what purpose it may have.
