I have painted since 1980, have held 12 personal art shows in Finland and one in Vienna, Geneva and Long Island, respectively. I have participated in 4 group shows in Helsinki, one in Stockholm, two in New York and two in Spoleto, Italy. I have been presented in two national TV programs in Finland and one in Italy (RAI 2). In addition to a large number of art fair participations in Finland I have also been shown at Euroart ’97 in Barcelona and Arte Padova ’99. I am represented in the collections of the University of Helsinki and in private collections in 16 countries. Through my membership in the Finnish Painters' Union and the Artists' Association of Finland I am also a member of the international association of art iaa. The works shown on the 11th Medial Global Art Annual Artists of Today are all recent, from 2001 on (for earlier work, see my homepage http://www.physics.helsinki.fi/~mroos/). They are abstract compositions, and the titles chosen are therefore more arbitrary than descriptive. They are painted with acrylic on glass fiber canvas, a material which is used instead of wall paper in modern housing. This material has the advantage that it can be glued on cardboard without buckling, in contrast to paper which always buckles. The semi-transparency of this medium offers the possibility to paint on both sides: whatever is painted on the back side then appears subdued with the canvas structure on top of it.
