Lives and Works in South Africa

Marina has held 19 solo, and numerous group exhibitions in South Africa and abroad. She has received several international awards, and is represented in private and public collections worldwide. Marina has also worked as a teacher, art critic and lecturer, serving on many art committees. Her current vision is to utilize, and amalgamate the African/San, and the Western/Classical images, as representative models of diverse cultures. The objective is to create works, which transcend boundaries, and form new images that embodies a spirit of dignity and acceptance within the current framework. The body of work for this exhibition consists of bronze sculptures and mixed media graphics. The theme predominating in my work is the struggle between the spiritual and the physical. The point of departure is the angelic or human form in the process of metamorphosis. The mediums I use are diverse. Some mediums are used for their symbolic significance - for instance clay and sand, the very stuff of which man is created. " I strive to create forms conveying the feeling of internal eternity, trapped within a constantly changing external organic form."
